A Good Day
Tyler woke early this morning, once again in his own bed. He helped me get some laundry going and then we made sure that our wardrobes matched. Same color socks, shirts and pants. After breakfast Tyler and I went down the church to play and let Sabrina run off leash. He spent a fair amount of time using some abandoned jump ropes to climb up and down the slope.
It took some effort to get him to head in for lunch. Usually, he will sit for a bit, if not nap, and enjoy some quiet. My habit is to use this to get in a run. Imagine my surprise when told me that he wanted to go with me and was willing to ride in the stroller. I was getting ready to sell the single stroller since he has shown zero interest in going for rides for a few months now. When he is willing to go I have to act fast lest he lose momentum. Fortified with on board steamed milk and a cub of pretzels he climbed in and we took off.
Just past the fire road gate was a long garter snake stretched across the trail. I skidded to a stop and grabbed the camera. The video captures our conversation. Tyler was ready to get out of the stroller to look for more snakes. He continued his plea for freedome as we climbed the trail. He's old enough now that I was able to tell him that this was my time to run and once we started he couldn't get out until running time is over. Plus I pointed out that he had to keep an eye on the trail for more snakes as well as lizards, slugs, and butterflies. He did a fine job. On the way home he fell asleep.
This could be our last day that follows this patter for some time to come. The arrival of the twins will make moments like this a little harder to pull off but we plan to make sure that they happen. Tyler will certainly have some adjustments to make and he deserves the chance for some one-on-one time with at least one of us.
Tomorrow, I hope to take him out again and run him to a place where he can play while I stretch. Let's hope for more snakes and a long run together.
